 Scope and Importance
The Department of Marathi is one of the oldest Departments of this College with the aims of promoting Marathi language & culture and also study of its history. The department of B.A. Marathi was established in 1978 at Under Graduate level And M.A Marathi was started from June 1993-94. Marathi is an Indo-Aryan language. It is the official language of Maharashtra state of India and is one of the 23 official languages of India. There were 73 million speakers in 2001; Marathi has the fourth largest number of native speakers in India. Marathi has some of the oldest literature of all modern Indo-Aryan languages, dating from about 1000 AD. The major dialects of Marathi are called Standard Marathi and Warhadi Marathi. There are a few other sub-dialects, such as Ahirani, Dangi, Vadvali, Samavedi, Khandeshi, Kokani and Malwani. Standard Marathi is the official language of the State of Maharashtra. Marathi is an Indian language spoken predominantly by the Marathi people of Maharashtra. It is the official language and co-official language in the Maharashtra and Goa states of Western India, respectively, and is one of the 22 scheduled languages of India. The students of the department receive guidance for the preparation of SET/NET examinations. Guidance is also provided to the students who appear at the MPSC/UPSC examinations. The students of the department and the members of the faculty are honored for the significant achievements. The future complex is going to be used as a center for Marathi language, literature and culture. There is a plan for library, seminar rooms and separate cubicles for research fellows etc. Today we need more resources for maintenance and development of the same. There is no doubt about the fact that it is getting tougher and tougher to get jobs nowadays. A mere graduation degree is not enough when the entire world is moving towards professional courses to get a relevant job. When you take up Arts or Humanities during your graduation, the job prospects are seen in academics, media, fashion, tourism, lifestyle, hospitality, government and private sectors. It is always advisable to study further to get a postgraduate degree or pursue a professional course so as to stay ahead of the competition for jobs. We give below the most popular job-oriented courses in Arts. Regular Post Graduate Courses Masters of Arts (MA): Going for a MA degree from a reputed institute can open the doors for M-Phil and a PhD program, which further enhances the job opportunities, especially in academics and research. There are specialised subjects which come under the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences disciplines, and fall within the Master of Arts category. After passing BA & MA Marathi, the golden jubilee is Mass Communication. The expanding trend of the print and electronic media has opened up many avenues. A PG Diploma Programmed in Mass communication opens up job avenues in many areas: Journalism, Films and Advertising, Public Relations, Digital Communication, Entertainment Management, Media, etc. Some popular courses in this industry are Master of Science in Mass Communication, Master of Arts In Mass Communication, Master of Media Studies, Master of Arts in Journalism, Master of Communication Studies, Master of Communication & Journalism, etc. There are so many opportunities are available to make career from B.A & M.A. Marathi education. The most demanded profession is teaching. And Litterateur, Press Reporter, Editor, Translator, Script writers etc. job opportunities. General Information for MA Marathi Credit System The M.A. degree will be awarded to students who complete a total of 64 credits in a minimum of two years taking four courses per Semester (4 X 4 = 16 Credits). Each course will be of 4 credits. A student may take three courses (equivalent to twelve credits) from the Department of Marathi in addition to one course of four credits from any other department per semester. In case a student wishes to take all courses from the Department of Marathi he/she can also do so. For the students doing M.A. degree in Marathi the courses are divided into compulsory and optional. Every student has to take one optional course in each semester along with three compulsory courses. Each course will have 50% marks as semester-end examination and 50 % marks for internal assessment. A student has to pass in the combined total of internal assessment and semester end examination subject to rules of credit and semester system as decided by the University from time to time. In order to pass a student shall have to get minimum 40% marks (E and above on grade point scale) in each course. The system of evaluation will be as follows: Each assignment/test will be evaluated in terms of marks. The marks for separate assignments and the final (semester end) examination will be added together and then converted into a grade and later grade point average. Results will be declared for each semester and the final examination will give total marks, grades and grade point average. The job prospects for the subject after post graduation are in academics, media, fashion, tourism, lifestyle, hospitality, government and private sectors. It is always advisable to study further to get a postgraduate degree or pursue a professional course so as to stay ahead of the competition for jobs.
